Cannot fast scroll down/up

  • recently, i installed xbmc.0420.hdy, xbmc.0424-orw, xbmc_mag_2005-04-28, all these three releases have the same problem: after installation, they worked fine at first, but after few days, say, one day or two, they couldn't fast scroll down/up using left/right trigger.

when the problem appeared, i tried replacing the keymap.xml with the most updated one from xbmc cvs on sourceforge.org, i tired deleted all the files in tdata and udata, deleted all the memory info for xbmc in xbox, but all these still couldn't fix the problem, still couldn't fast scroll down/up using left/right trigger.

however, if i replaced the default.xbe in xbmc.0420.hdy, xbmc.0424-orw *and *xbmc_mag_2005-04-28, with the one in xbmc-0416-phree, then there is no problem at all, i could fast scroll down/up using left/right trigger, this proves that there is problem with default.xbe in the latest releases of xbmc.

don't know this problem is universal or just mine, could any of xbmc team members check this?

  • i'm currently redoing the key/action interaction atm, which should sort most of these type of issues out.

until i can reproduce faults though, i can't fix them.

spiff: if you are running debug environment, please pop a break point in framemove() once this issue has popped up and step through and see what's going on.

i suspect that the lastanalogkey and newanalogkey aren't being reset properly - the code looks fine from a quick glance however.

the new system should improve things somewhat, and is overdue (the main issue it addresses is currently multiple actions can be sent with the sticks - eg analog move and any of the separate directional actions)

    cheers,
    jonathan

  • there is no calibration data kept (and thus none to be incorrect). if your stick is permanently offcenter, then there's a problem with your controller. i suggest just increasing the until it stops, or unplug the controller when using xbmc.

  • i have the same problem with not being able to use the triggers to fast forward and back, but my problem seems to be somehow only associated with my logitech wireless controllers. i don't have the problem when i use the wired controller that came with the system. also if i pause the playing file with the logitec controller, xbmc locks! i'm using 5-16-05 version of xbmc. both of my logitec wireless controllers do the exact same thing. i can reproduce the problems 100% of the time. if there is some debug information that i could provide that may help with a solution (other than not using my logitec controlls :) ), i would be happy to provide it.

  • sorry this is a little off-topic:
i would like to add also that this issue happens at radom moments when you return to xbmc from playing a game
but how do you return to xbmc after playing a game.
you mean doing an in game reset through your bios?
or is there a cool xbmc feature that i've missed?

btw. i experienced this also once or twice. but just did a reboot and that fixed it.

  • i'm still having this problem
the right thumbstick fix works for me if you move it up and down a couple of times...
    using build 08-05-2005

  • i've had this issue a few times. i found out that touching the right thumbstick (eg adjusting the volume) fixes it for me..

  • i'm using the latest xbmc (build.05.13), the problem still existed, *xbmc worked fine after installation, but after a day or two, it just couldn't fast scroll up/down using left/right triggers. the right thumbstick fix didn't work for me.

but if i replaced the default.xbe with the one in xbmc-0416-phree, there's no problem at all (it worked fine for a long, long time), it seems there's problem with default.xbe in the latest build.

  • it might be that the sticks are interferring with things - make sure they are both properly centered. if you find that is the problem, then you'll need to increase the parameter in xboxmediacenter.xml.

  • just checked with xbmc that i compiled *myself* tonight and the triggers work fine for scrolling (fast that is).

    ts

  • that's not my problem, it is perfectly centered.. and since the volume bar is modeless now, i thought it wasn't supposed to intefere anyway (no window-no keymapping, ?)

  • any new updates on this issue?

this happened to me yesterday with my logitech wireless controller. older builds have had no problems. i have reinstalled xbmc multiple times and it has not fixed my problem. it seems to be permenantly bugged for some reason. if i unplug the wireless and plug in a standard controller, it seems to work fine. if the wireless and a standard are plugged in together, neither of them work.

i have tried installing two different *newer* builds. 06-04-05 and 06-08-05. the 04 build worked for a couple of days without any problems. the only thing i haven't tried was reverting to my previous build from 04-10-05 which never had a problem.

it seemed to do it while i was changing batteries, now, i know the controller itself is fine, because i can reboot the system from the controller. all previous mentions of attempting to fix it have not worked for me.

  • you know what?

    you are completely right.

i don't know why i didn't notice this before, but i have booted into avalaunch many times, and even the x3 config many times with this controller and really have not had a problem. i just went back to test it again in avalaunch and the default calibration is off. i suspect this may be a problem with the wireless logitech controllers as a whole.

oh well, time to go out and buy a dvd remote! :)

  • i myself am having the same problem when i attempt to use the triggers on my cordless logitech controller. not only do the triggers not work on there any more, but if i try to use it, they no longer work via the regular controller [until i reboot].

  • i had the same problem wit mag 04-28 but i downloaded a new keymap.xml from cvs and that fixed the problem but only for like one day or until i rebooted. try comparing the keymap.xml on you xbox and the file in the release you used and see if theres a difference

  • i would like to add also that this issue happens at radom moments when you return to xbmc from playing a game. the l/r triggers don't fast scroll like it's supposed to and doesn't ff/rw when watching movies. tried the right thumb stick fix trick and doesn't work here. compiling a new build now to see if it fixes it

  • ok, so almost a month after i posted this i now have some more information about the issue.

i don't know if anyone else was able to get this fixed, but its been bothering me for almost a month now and i have found something interesting out. i noticed that when i went into games, my left analog stick would not be calibrated quite properly. for instance, if i was playing a third person type game, my character would slowly walk forward and a little bit to the right.

so, with that in mind, i went back to xbmc with my wireless controller and held the left analog stick back and to the left a little bit. when i did that, the controller was calibrated properly according to xbmc and i was able to fast scroll up and down, plus use the right analog stick for volume. (this previously did not work).

so, now all we have on our hands is a calibration issue somewhere in the new builds. the strange part of this is, why would we even be having this calibration issue, and why it is happening to more than one person?

is there any way to completely reset the calibration, or, better yet, be able to manually configure the calibration to fix this issue. i have gone as far as to set the deadzone to .3 and that still had not had an effect on the problem.

during my upgrades for the xbmc, i removed the xbmc folder, the 0face008/*.* files in udata and tdata, and deleted the cache. that is everything that i really know would be causing the issue. now, something even more strange that i found out. i was browsing my e: and noticed an apps/xbmc folder. strangely enough, the log files in the folder were dated back to 06/09, the same date that i started having the problems with this wireless controller. i deleted the entire apps folder containing xbmc and this still did not have an effect on the problem.

so, somewhere, incorrect calibration data is being held.

i hope this helps the problem.

  • i'm having the same problem - no fast scrolling with the triggers. xboxsfan, did you find a solution?

    -s

  • i would like to add that sometimes the latest build of xbmc couldn't fast scroll down/up after playing a game and then returning to xbmc, but when xbmc couldn't fast scroll down/up, if i chose to play a game and then return to xbmc, then fast scroll down/up worked again.

so, for me, there are two solutions to the malfunction of fast scroll down/up: 1) replace the default.xbe with the one from xbmc-0416-phree; *2) choose to play a game and then return to xbmc

hope the above-mentioned info helps xbmc devs to solve the problem

  • just to let everyone know, i was able to finally make the logitech wireless controller "work". i ended up having to set the deadzone to .5. once i did that, it works great, of course, it does not work in games, but thats ok.

  • umm.. why the hell are you posting binaries here?

    that is a big no-no.

    ts

  • i was able to get the scrolling back by deleting my cache. i am not sure if this is a permanent fix yet, but thought i'd pass the info along.
